Apple MacBook Air 11-inch Review

By

An object of desire - that's just a bit too expensive
This product is the closest to a netbook among others created by Apple. However Apple doesn't call it netbook. Whatever it is, MacBook Air 11-inch looks amazing and the only thought that comes to the head is that this product is design marvel.
Despite the fact that the whole design is only 0.3cm at the slimmest point, aluminum lid feels strong enough.
As for connections,  MacBook Air 11-inch includes headphone jack, two USBs, Mini DisplayPort and possibility to get  N WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1. however you won't find neither Firewire nor optical drive or card slot in the device.
The most impressive thing about  MacBook Air is it's  11.6-inch LED backlit screen. It shows the text very clearly, even off- angle.

Apple MacBook Air 11-inch: Memory and battery

In comparison with MacBook Pro and iPad, the 11-inch version looks really small. Apple says that they've learned from iPad and put the best into MacBook Air.
The flash storage is out of the box, not just via upgrade. As Apple claims, user has 90% more space after getting rid of chip's hard drive enclosure. This free space lets to use it for larger battery. Thus you are left only with the actual chip.
One more thing stressed by Apple is the life of battery which reaches 5 hours. Using device with brightness at 50% , WiFi on, some video watching and typing, you will have only half of this time. What is very comfortable- new standby mode. Imagine, that you won't use computer for one month, and when you turn it on, continues as before. The lid is opened from sleep and powers on instantly.
You can choose MacBook Air from two flash memory configurations- 64Gb and 128Gb. However this won't be enough for almost everyone of us.
MacBook Air never feels cramped having in mind how small it is. Keys are a little bit shallow, but it's definitely more comfortable than some other 11-inch laptops. Multitouch Trackpad is much more quicker just when you get used to it.

Apple MacBook Air 11-inch: Processor, graphics and FaceTime.

Computer works quite fast with it's Duo processor and 2GB RAM. You can watch HD video, open various browser windows and type with having problems with sluggishness. However nothing good can be said about audio quality- MacBook Air has very little audio power. The sound is projected through the keyboard by stereo speakers. However this is not very surprising when we have in mind the size of the computer.
You can communicate with iPhone 4, iPod Touch and other Mac's over WiFi if you download the FaceTime beta. The quality will depend on your communication, but we haven't had any problems while trying this.

Apple MacBook Air 11-inch: Conclusion

The main issue appears to be the price: £850 for the basic model, £1000 for our review model and £1200 for the original MacBook Air is really expensive. Maybe it has some great features, but lets have in mind that we can get a MacBook with a 10-hour battery, more storage and a 2.4Ghz processor for £850. However if money is not a problem for you, this product is very great and luxury.
